Operating out of the rugged English Lake District, I offer professional instruction and guidance in rock climbing, mountaineering and scrambling across some of the UK’s most dramatic terrain. From taking your first steps into the mountains to refining advanced skills I can be there guiding you on your journey.
Whatever your goal is, I tailor each experience to suit your background, goals and pace based on my decades of experience and high-level qualifications. I also provide expedition consultancy and leadership development for individuals and teams who are seeking to build capability in remote and challenging environments.
Whether you’re a novice climber, preparing for a major objective, or developing mountain leadership, I can deliver tailored support rooted in deep local knowledge and global expedition experience.
The question I am most asked? Why are you called Ullr?
Ullr (Ool-uh) is a prominent, ancient Norse god associated with mountains, winter, skiing, hunting, and archery. He is often invoked by mountaineers and skiers for safety and good conditions.
In a fitting echo of myth and mountain, Ullswater (my closest lake to home) is thought by some to be named after him.
